Abstract
Objective:To explore the usability and characteristic parameters of mental rotation system based on virtual reality (VR) in clinical rehabilitation.
Method:A total of 15 healthy volunteers, 10 patients with brain injury and 4 physiotherapists were recruited to perform the usability test of VR-based hand mental rotation task(HMRT). The healthy volunteers also received the traditional HMRT based on E-prime software. The system usability scale (SUS), simulator discomfort scale (SSQ), and semi-structured interviews were used to collect the system's usability score, VR motion sickness degree and feedback on the use of the system, respectively.
Result:There was no significant difference in the average reaction time (t=0.424, P=0.680) and the correct rate (t=1.865, P=0.6) between VR and traditional E-Prime mental rotation, and they had similar 'accuracy-angle' trend. The SUS score was (77.0±11.4) in healthy subjects and (60.0±12.3) in patients with brain injury, and the overall usability range was at “Good” level. The average SSQ score were 10.22 and 6.73 in healthy subjects and patients, indicating no obvious sickness. The semi-structured interview reflected that the comfort of hardware, the form of feedback, training elements needed to be further improved.
Conclusion:The VR-based HMRT demonstrates overall good usability and has the potential to bring a new form of evaluation and training for motor imagery in clinical rehabilitation. |
